WHO Calls for Global Experts to Join the Science Council: Shape the Future of Global Health! (2026)

The World Health Organization (WHO) is on a mission to strengthen its scientific leadership and shape the future of global health. To achieve this, they're seeking an elite group of experts to join their Science Council, an advisory body that will guide the organization's scientific direction and make a real impact on public health worldwide.

In a world where science is constantly evolving, WHO recognizes the need for expert guidance. The Chief Scientist's Office, led by Dr. Sylvie Briand, plays a pivotal role in setting the scientific agenda, supporting health norms and standards, and ensuring ethical research practices.

But here's where it gets controversial: WHO is calling on the world's leading experts to translate emerging knowledge into practical solutions and drive innovations that benefit everyone. It's a bold move, and one that requires a diverse range of expertise.

The Science Council will be a powerhouse of knowledge, identifying breakthroughs and trends, assessing urgent scientific issues, and providing strategic guidance on research and global challenges. Members will also review WHO's normative products and advise on the ethical implications of new scientific advances.

WHO is seeking 15-20 multidisciplinary experts with exceptional achievements and experience at the highest strategic levels. Fields of expertise include biomedical research, emerging technologies, data science, health economics, social sciences, governance, ethics, and global health.

Selected members will serve as individuals, bringing their unique perspectives and skills to the table. WHO values technical expertise, communication skills, and international policy experience, and is particularly interested in experts from low- and middle-income countries to ensure a diverse and inclusive council.

The Science Council will meet at least three times a year, either in Geneva or virtually. While positions are not remunerated, WHO covers travel and accommodation expenses.

If you think you have what it takes to be part of this prestigious council, here's your chance. Expressions of interest are open until January 16, 2026. Applications, including a cover letter, CV, and a completed WHO Declaration of Interests form, must be submitted by 11:59 pm Geneva time on the same date.

Don't miss this opportunity to be a part of shaping global health. Apply now and be a part of this exciting initiative. For more information, contact sciencecouncil@who.int.

And this is the part most people miss: the impact of your work on this council could be life-changing for millions. Will you take up the challenge?
