Lyantonde District's Leader Warns of Internal Strife in the Ruling Party
Deborah Rwabwogo, the Lyantonde District NRM Chairperson and independent candidate for the Woman Member of Parliament seat, has issued a stark warning about the potential consequences of infighting within the ruling party. She believes that these divisions could significantly impact the party's electoral success, emphasizing the need for unity and responsible leadership.
Ms. Rwabwogo's concerns stem from her firsthand experience of internal strife within the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Lyantonde. She has witnessed how personal rivalries and internal conflicts have weakened the party's unity, with some members prioritizing individual interests over the collective goal of victory. This has led to a sense of isolation and a need for a fresh approach.
As an independent candidate, Ms. Rwabwogo is now competing against six other contenders, including the official NRM candidate, Doreen Katusabe Birungi, and the National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate, Nalubega Halimah Zalwango. Her campaign has been marked by allegations of internal sabotage and a forged document that aims to remove her from her position as District NRM Chairperson due to her independent status.
The root cause of her decision to contest outside the party ticket, according to Ms. Rwabwogo, lies in the pervasive corruption within local leadership. She claims that some officials have been misusing taxpayers' funds, resulting in poor service delivery and hardship for the general population. This has led to a breakdown in trust and a need for change.
During her campaign in Kisaluwoko Village, Kasagama Sub-county, Ms. Rwabwogo engaged with residents on critical issues such as governance, service delivery, and internal party democracy. The attendees highlighted pressing local challenges, including a lack of clean water, rampant livestock theft, the absence of electricity, and the absence of a health facility, all of which require urgent attention from the government.
As the campaign trail heats up in Lyantonde District, Ms. Rwabwogo has urged voters to reject violence and the politics of hatred. She advocates for a leadership that fosters unity, accountability, and improved service delivery, emphasizing the importance of collective effort and transparency.
