Circana's data shows a 40% year-on-year growth in protein-led products within the Australian grocery industry, which is six times higher than the overall food and grocery sector.

This trend is attributed to GLP-1 users actively seeking protein-rich options, as they are aware that weight loss medications can lead to muscle mass loss. Bone predicts that the availability of weight loss drugs in pill form in Australia will further boost these trends in beauty, pharmacy, grocery, food, and beverage.

This shift presents both opportunities and challenges for food manufacturers. Bone emphasizes the potential for premiumization, where functional health products with higher fiber, nutrient density, smaller portions, or protein content can attract consumers willing to pay a premium for these benefits.
